A former migrant student and Lakewood Ranch High School graduate has put her mark on the nation’s capitol.

Liliana Ibarra, a former migrant student, spent the summer serving in Washington, D.C., where she worked as an intern with the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry.

Ibarra shared about her experience with the Manatee County School District’s English Speakers of Other Languages-Migrant Department during a special presentation Tuesday.

“It was amazing,” Ibarra said of her internship. “It was truly a lifetime experience.”

Ibarra leaves for Tampa today to prepare for college. She will study political science at the University of South Florida.
