Bird Key Yacht Club celebrated the opening of their latest art exhibit at the club, Wednesday, Dec. 8 starting at 6 PM. Janine Ward’s quilts were hung on the walls in the lobby for all to see. Ward attended the event along with her family and good family friends. Ward gave a gallery talk about her fiber art and the quilts on display prior to an a-la-carte dinner.

“The question people ask me most often is ‘how long did it take you to make that’,” said Ward. Her response is something she truly believes is the best answer to that question. “It took me my whole life to acquire the artistic and quilting skills to make that quilt.” Ward’s quilts were very tropical and beach themed with titles like “Laughing Gulls”, “Brown Pelicans” and “Siesta Beach Walk”.

Also on display in the main lobby is the Nutcracker Collection of Dick and Leslie Rivera. The Rivera’s started collecting nutcrackers right after they got married and bought their first one in New York. They recently added two more nutcrackers to their collection, a Nordic Santa and a Russian Santa that they bought to commemorate their trip to Scandinavia and St. Petersburg, Russia earlier this year.
