The proposed 2011-12 budget for the city of Sarasota calls for a 6.75% increase to $174,355,369, up more than $11 million from the 2010-11 budget that totaled $163,323,549.

Chris Lyons, city finance director, and Robert Bartolotta, city manager, presented the budget proposal to the Sarasota City Commission at today’s workshop meeting.

About 59%, or about $6.5 million, of the proposed increase, is allocated for the Enterprise Fund to pay for multiple capital improvement projects.

Budget workshops are scheduled for July 19 through July 21.
