Sarasota police are asking the public for help in solving a series of residential burglaries on St. Armands Key that began in November.

The most common locations for the break-ins are North Washington Drive and, more recently, South Washington Drive.

Police say that a suspect is prying the rear sliding glass doors or the front door of residences to gain entry and then targets the master bedroom, where the most valuable jewelry is often found.

The suspect is possibly watching homes to determine when the owner is away.

The homeowner has had an alarm system that wasn’t activated in most cases. In others, the resident has left their doors unlocked before leaving.

Police urge residents to use their alarm systems and ensure it is operating properly. Police also recommend securing valuables in a safety deposit box or secure area.

Citizens should call 911 if they observe suspicious activity, vehicles or individuals.
