Police department to hold free seminar on avoiding scams

As tax season begins, the Sarasota Police Department will offer a free seminar on how to avoid becoming a victim of the emerging crime trends, fraudulent tax schemes and identity theft.

The training seminar called “Scams, Schemes, and Exploitation” will occur at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7 at the Sarasota Police Department (2099 Adams Lane) in the Community Room.

Detective Jack Carter, an economic crimes detective, assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division of the Sarasota Police Department, will be the presenter. Carter will provide instruction on how residents can minimize their chances of becoming a victim of these crimes. The seminar will include training on how to avoid becoming a victim of the emerging crime trends, fraudulent tax schemes, and identity theft.
