Police arrest man after abduction attempt

A man led Sarasota Police on a six-mile car chase ending at the intesection of University Parkway and North Lockwood Ridge Road early Sunday, Sept. 15, after allegedly holding another man captive at gunpoint.

Sarasota Police arrested 19-year-old Dion Barnes on charges of false imprisonment, aggravated assault and battery, after Barnes allegedly picked up 35-year-old Ricardo Toro, drove him to a parking garage and threatened him with a firearm. The situation was sexual in nature, according to details in the arrest report.

Detectives discovered a BB gun in Barnes' vehicle after the chase, which began at the intersection of North Tamiami Trail and Boulevard of the Arts.
