The Planning and Zoning Board recommended rezoning two properties as open space to reflect their historic and intended future uses at its Sept. 16 meeting.

The properties are a 3.81-acre tract currently classified as residential at 5810 Gulf of Mexico Drive and a 0.71-acre plot at 4110 Gulf of Mexico Drive that’s currently zoned as commercial.

Both sites have historically been used as open space, which refers to land that is undeveloped and is accessible to the public.

The classification will change if the Longboat Key Town Commission votes on first and second reading to approve the change later this year.
