Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate’s Roger Pettingell closed 59 sales totaling $61.85 million in 2013, making him the top-ranked Realtor for sales volume in Sarasota and Manatee counties, according to the Sarasota-Manatee Multiple Listing Service (MLS).

Pettingell’s sales volume was up from $50.7 million in 2012, when he also had the highest sales volume in the region. It’s the fourth time Pettingell, who works out of the company’s Longboat Key office, has achieved the distinction. He also sold more listings over $1 million than any other agent in Sarasota County, according to a news release.

“Last year was amazing, but this year is already showing signs that it might be even bigger. I have never started a season with this strong of an inventory of multi-million dollar properties before,” Pettingell said in a prepared statement. “Right now I have 34 luxury listings on the market, ranging in price from $495,000 to $6.9 million. Sellers choose me because they want an agent who can find the right buyer and has a successful track record, year after year.”

In 2013, Pettingell hired two additional staff members to assist with the administrative and marketing side of the business but continues to operate as an individual agent. He also revamped his website, longboatrealestate.com, began a blog on the site, grew his presence on social media and started a unique website for each listing with videos for many of the properties.

Arvida Corp. hired Pettingell in 1983 to work in marketing after he graduated with a degree in biology from Guilford College, in Greensboro, N.C. He originally thought he would take the year off before starting medical school.

Instead, Disney bought Arvida in 1984, and Pettingell moved to Boca Raton to serve as marketing liason between Disney and Arvida, but returned to Longboat Key in 1989, when the company became Waterside Properties. Coldwell acquired Waterside properties approximately 14 years ago.

Pettingell and his wife, Alisa, have two sons, Jake and Max. He sits on the board of directors for the West Coast Black Theatre Troupe, the Ringling Museum and Southeastern Guide Dogs. He is a supporter of Girls Inc. and received the organization’s 2010 Father of the Year Award. He also serves on the advisory boards of the Child Advocacy Center of Sarasota and Forty Carrots Family Center.
