The town charter requires the votes of at least five commissioners to appoint a town manager, and the appointment of an interim manager should follow the same process, according to an email town attorney David Persson wrote to commissioners.

“It is my opinion that even an interim appointment must meet this requirement,” Persson wrote.

The commission will consider a one-year agreement signed by Sarasota County Deputy Administrator David Bullock for the interim position at its Monday, Oct. 3 meeting. Longboat Key Police Chief Al Hogle has been serving as acting town manager since the commission accepted the resignation of 14-year Town Manager Bruce St. Denis.
