A pedestrian died last night at the scene of a crash that occurred in the 2900 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive.

According to police, around 6:30 p.m. the pedestrian attempted to cross the street headed toward the Islander Club and was struck by a vehicle driven by a Longboat Key businessman who was headed home from work and attempted to avoid striking the pedestrian but was unable to do so. The man stopped to render aid and immediately call 911.
