The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin paving and making modifications to State Road 789 (Gulf of Mexico Drive) from the Longboat Pass Bridge to Cortez Road beginning Monday, July 12.

The project is expected to be complete this fall, weather permitting, and will not cause major traffic issues because the contractor has received permission to work during evening hours.

There will be temporary lane closures and nighttime work between the hours of 7:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.

In addition, a public information meeting will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, at Town Hall, 501 Bay Isles Road, regarding Gulf of Mexico Drive resurfacing projects from the north end of New Pass Bridge north to the Manatee County line. Improvements include removing old asphalt and resurfacing the road, shoulder work, curb and gutters, highways signs and pavement markings and sidewalks. Construction is expected to begin in August and continue through February 2011.
