Paul Ryan to stop in Sarasota

House Speaker Paul Ryan will stop in Sarasota County Tuesday, for a fundraiser to support his campaign for re-election.

Rep. Vern Buchanan, who represents Sarasota and part of Manatee County, will host the event at his Longboat Key home. The minimum donation for the event is $1,000.

Ryan, who won the speakership by 236 votes Oct. 29, following the resignation of U.S. Rep. John Boehner, has raised $4.5 million for the race as of Dec. 31.

BookStore1Sarasota hosted Ryan two years ago for a book-signing event.

In a video released for Presidents Day, Ryan said his favorite president was James Madison, while his least favorite was Woodrow Wilson.

“I think Barack Obama sees his great project as building on that work from Woodrow Wilson on,” Ryan said.
