Panhandling ordinance enforcement begins Monday

The Sarasota Police Department will begin enforcing a new ordinance aimed at stopping panhandling near traffic Monday, April 29, according to a news release.

Officers will issue court summons or arrest violators caught soliciting donations, contributions, employment, business, sales or exchanges with vehicles.

Police began placing digital signs advertising the ordinance at busy intersections Wednesday, April 24.
