The intersection at Palm Avenue and Main Street will be closed to traffic from Sept. 9-25 as Main Street streetscape improvement efforts continue.

The intersection will be closed to install four brick crosswalks at Palm and Main. The city has outlined suggested detour routes for motorists driving through the area.

“We understand this will be an inconvenience,” Downtown Improvement Projects Manager Richard Winder said in a city press release. “We’re striving to keep it to a minimum by doing the improvements all at once and out of season.”

The City Commission approved the improvements in July, but requested construction take place in September since it is historically a slower month for businesses. The project, funded by the Downtown Improvement District, will cost about $57,000.

More information about the Main Street streetscape improvements project can be found at the city’s website.
