The Out-of-Door Academy sophomores Tyler Dietrich and Desmond Lindsey both verbally committed to play baseball for the University of Houston this past week.

The two players attended the University of Houston Prospect Camp and were so impressed with the Division I school that they decided to commit.

“I like the campus and the coaches,” Dietrich said. “I just thought it was the place for me.”

“I just wanted the opportunity to play in college,” Lindsey said. “It’s not about going to a big school. I just want to go to college and play.”

Dietrich verbally committed Aug. 7 and Lindsey declared his intentions known the following day.

Dietrich and Lindsey have been playing baseball together since they were about eight years old. This past spring, the pair helped lead the Thunder to an 18-5 record, a district runner-up finish and a Class 3A regional quarterfinal appearance.

Dietrich finished the season with a .471 batting average, 18 RBIs and 12 stolen bases and was named to the Florida Athletic Coaches Association’s All-State Team while Lindsey batted .310 with 22 RBIs and seven stolen bases.
