Our town: Plymouth Harbor resident nets 98th birthday

Plymouth Harbor resident George Heitler spent his 98th birthday at one of his favorite places: a tennis court at the Longboat Key Public Tennis Center.

Born Sept. 3, 1915, Heitler took up tennis at 12 but had to give it up during the Great Depression. He took up the sport again when he was 45 and has been netting victories — and birthdays — ever since.

Heitler got his birthday wish a few weeks early when his family paid him a visit in August: That’s when he got four generations of his family together on the tennis court.
