Osprey Avenue between Mound Street and Brother Geenan Way will be temporarily closed to traffic beginning Monday, Nov. 28. The road is expected to re-open in 60 days.

Local traffic only will be allowed between Brother Geenan Way and Ringling Boulevard.

The closure is necessary while crews install a force water main as part of a capital improvement project to build a new lift station in nearby Luke Wood Park. The detour route for southbound traffic is U.S. 301 and Orange Avenue for northbound traffic. Message boards are posted in the vicinity, notifying drivers about the detour.

Osprey Avenue between Mound Street and Bahia Vista Street will remain temporarily closed through February 2012 for the same construction project. The detour route is U.S. 41.

Regular project updates are provided on online at www.sarasotagov.com and via Twitter@CityofSarasota.

When completed, the new Lift Station 87 will be very reliable with redundancy and a diesel operated backup system. It also will be one of the largest lift stations in Florida housed underground. The entire project is expected to be completed by October 2012.
