City commission approves downtown projects

→ The Sarasota City Commission unanimously approved a list of downtown projects Monday that include a Main Street streetscape projects.

AThe Sarasota City Commission unanimously approved a $4.7 million Main Street streetscape project for downtown Sarasota Monday with one stipulation: Commissioners must sign off on projects before they start to monitor construction timelines and make sure they don’t coincide with season.

County preps for hurricane season

→ Members of various Sarasota County agencies have started training for the 2012 hurricane season, which is expected to bring about 10 storms, at the Emergency Operations Center.

Sarasota County Administrator Randall Reid led a presentation yesterday aimed at preparing for the 2012 hurricane season using the oath: “Always be prepared.”

Ed McCrane, the county’s emergency management chief, reiterated Colorado State University’s Tropical Meteorology Project prediction of 10 storms expected to hit Florida this season. He stressed the importance of preparation noting some behaviors to be avoided ... [click
