OBITUARY: Sidney Libit

Sidney Libit, 97, of Longboat Key, died Nov. 8.

Born March 2, 1913, in Chicago, he graduated from Northwestern University’s law school in 1938 and organized a local chapter of The American Wholesale Grocers Association and cofounded U.S. Cap and Closure, a bottle-top company that was eventually sold to Owens-Illinois. Additionally, he held more than two dozen patents.

Mr. Libit was an active supporter of the City of Hope Cancer Center in California.

Mr. Libit was preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne. He is survived by his children, Lawrence, Jeffrey and Jeanne; and two grandchildren.

A funeral service took place Sunday in Skokie, Ill.
