Obituary: Lucien Benjamin Levy

Lucien Benjamin Levy, 68, of Longboat Key, died Aug. 17.

Born in Alexandria, Egypt, he attended the Lycee de L’Union Juive, a Jewish day school, where his basic curriculum was taught in French, and he also took Arabic, English and Hebrew classes. After graduation he attended College Saint Marc, a Roman Catholic parochial school run by the Brothers of St. Jean-Baptiste De La Salle. He graduated with honors from College St. Marc with a French baccalaureate in mathematics.

Mr. Levy immigrated to the United States in 1962, due to worsening conditions for the Jewish community in Alexandria, with the help of the Hebrew International Aid Society (HIAS). He moved to the Los Angeles area, where his maternal aunt lived, and graduated summa cum laude from the University of California-Los Angeles and California Institute of Technology. He was a Woodrow Wilson Fellow and a member of the Syrian and Sahib Shrines.

Mr. Levy retired from Proctor & Gamble, in Cincinnati, after 30 years of serving in managerial and executive positions. He moved to Longboat Key in 1999.

Mr. Levy is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ada; stepsons, Marc Mazorow and Dale Mazorow; two granddaughters; and many loving friends.

A memorial service and musical tribute will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, in the Water Club ballroom, 1261 Gulf of Mexico Drive. A reception will follow. RSVP to Ada Levy at 387-2400.
