Jeannette McClintock Nicol, 90, of Longboat Key, died Thursday, Nov. 5.

Born March 16, 1919, in Detroit, she graduated in 1937 from the Grier School, in Birmingham, Penn., and attended Wellesley College, in Wellesley, Mass. She returned to Bloomfield Hills, Mich., where she grew up and worked for more than a decade as a volunteer for the Detroit League for the Handicapped.

In 1955, Ms. Nicol joined her parents, Frank and Elsie, in their retirement to Bayou Hammock on Longboat Key. She cared for both parents until their deaths in 1963 and 1985, respectively.

Ms. Nicol was active in island politics and the Longboat Key Center for the Arts, where she enjoyed the study of enamel-on-copper art. She was a lifelong conservationist and worked to preserve Sister Keys as well as the natural environment of barrier islands. She loved all animals, especially raccoons and cats. She was a member of the Junior League of Sarasota and the Wellesley Club of Sarasota.

Ms. Nicol is survived by her nephew, Dwight McClintock Moore, of Houston.

At Ms. Nicol’s request, no services are planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to the charity of your choice.
