Obituary: George M. Bachar

George M. Bachar, 78, of Sarasota, died April 4.

A Renaissance man, Mr. Bachar worked as a teacher, a pharmaceutical salesman and owner of “By the Seat of Your Pants,” a clothing store, before moving in 1974 from Arlington Heights, Ill., to Longboat Key, where he opened the Charthouse Pub, a now-defunct restaurant that was known for its hotdogs and chili.
Mr. Bachar loved to dance and will be remembered for his sense of humor.

Mr. Bachar was preceded in death by his brothers, Danny and Dickie; and his daughter, Denise Wolfson.
He is survived by Bernice, his wife of 52 years; brother, Jim; son, Craig; daughter, Lisa Koontz; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

A funeral service was held Friday, April 12, at Faith Presbyterian Church. Memorial donations may be made to the church, 1201 N. Beneva Road, Sarasota, Fla., 34232, or the American Cancer Society, cancer.org.
