OBITUARY: Ellis Glee 'E.G.' Bennington

Ellis Glee “E.G.” Bennington, 54, of Siesta Key, died Monday, June 2.

Mr. Bennington was a native of Sarasota and longtime resident of Siesta Key. He was an admirer of Florida's native plants and wildlife. This love and appreciation was expressed in his career of more than 25 years with the Parks and Recreation Department of Sarasota County. Mr. Bennington was instrumental in designing and overseeing landscapes of many of Sarasota’s parks and beaches.

Mr. Bennington was an avid nature photographer. He graciously volunteered his wealth of knowledge and his love for nature and was appreciated and loved by many. He also loved bicycling, kayaking and fishing. His legacy will live on in the many wonderful parks of Sarasota County.

Mr. Bennington is survived by his loving companion of 17 years, Judi Jobb; mother, Patricia Nickell; stepfather, Gilbert Picot; and siblings, Dawn Bennington-Stewart, Michelle Mehok, Lana Picot and John Pavel.

A memorial celebration will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 15, at the Edson Keith Mansion at Phillippi Estate Park, 5500 S. Tamiami Trail. All are welcome.
