Obituary: Dr. William Vilensky

Dr. William Vilensky, of Longboat Key and formerly of Margate, N.J., died July 30. He was 84.

Born Feb. 1, 1928, to Benjamin and Deana Vilensky, Dr. Vilensky was raised in Atlantic City, N.J., and graduated from Atlantic City High School. He was a prominent pharmacist and physician, specializing in family medicine, addiction education and forensic medicine.

Dr. Vilensky began his early career working in his family’s Atlantic City pharmacy and later attended the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. Following in his father’s footsteps, he opened his own pharmacy in the Wildwood, N.J., area. After several years operating the pharmacy, Dr. Vilensky returned to school to earn his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, practicing in Camden County, N.J. Dr. Vilensky was a professor at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where he became a sought after lecturer and expert in forensic medicine.

In 1991, he resigned from UMDNJ and founded Forensic and Educational Consultants. An avid world traveler and professional photographer, Dr. Vilensky also enjoyed scuba diving and snow skiing.

Dr. Vilensky is survived by his wife of 25 years, Joyce; sister, Leonore Kaplan; sister, Jill Vroegop; brother, Lewis Vilensky; daughter, Dr. Louisa Sanders; son, Lee Vilensky; and two granddaughters.

Dr. Vilensky also leaves his four stepsons, Steven Sinderbrand, Gary Sinderbrand, Richard Sinderbrand and David Sinderbrand; and 10 grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, July 31. The family requests that contributions in Dr. Vilensky’s memory be made to RNS, 102 N. 35th Ave., Longport, N.J., 08403 or Congregation Beth Israel, 2501 Shore Road, Northfield, N.J., 08225. Arrangements were made by Roth-Goldsteins’ Memorial Chapel, in Atlantic City, N.J.
