OBITUARY: Dr. Samuel Hannah

Dr. Samuel Hannah, 72, of Bradenton, died July 10.

Born May 29, 1938, in Ballston Spa, N.Y., he was salutatorian of his class at Ballston Spa High School in 1956 and graduated summa cum laude from Niagara University, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., in 1960 with a degree in arts and sciences. He graduated from Albany Medical College of Union University in 1967 and completed his formal training in otolaryngology and head-and-neck surgery, with additional training in facial, plastic and reconstructive surgery in 1972.

In July 1972, Dr. Hannah and his family moved to Bradenton. He was a founder of Ear, Nose and Throat Associates of Manatee, initially known as Whaley, Chapman and Hannah, M.D., P.A. Together, the company’s members established the Manatee Hearing & Speech Center in 1974. Dr. Hannah served on the staff of Manatee Memorial Hospital and Blake Medical Center, where he served on numerous committees. He was an active member of the Manatee County Medical Society.

Dr. Hannah was a member of the Saints Peter & Paul the Apostles Catholic Church, in Bradenton, and a founding member of St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church. He served on the Grants Committee of the Manatee Community Foundation and was a member of the Just for Girls Millennium Club and Legacy Society.

Dr. Hannah was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Ann. He is survived by his wife, Gail; sons, Joseph, of Bradenton, and Michael, of Kissimmee; daughters Mary Beth Munday, of Burnt Hills, N.Y., and Colleen Cuva, of Bradenton; sister, Mary Ellen Boyce, of Galway, N.Y.; brothers Michael, of Niskayuna, N.Y., and Charles, of Ballston Spa; four grandchildren; and many extended family members.

Calling hours will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 16, at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, 720 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton. A funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at Saints Peter & Paul the Apostles Catholic Church, 2850 75th St. W., Bradenton.
