Clarence ‘Cal’ Buckingham Atkins, 80, of Bradenton, died April 11.

Born in Bristol, Conn., Mr. Atkins graduated from Colby College in Waterville, Maine, where he was a member of the Zeta Psi fraternity.

Mr. Atkins started his career in communications, retiring as an executive of NEC Corporation of America in 1998 in Melville, N.Y.

Upon moving in 1990 to Florida, he found retirement dull, so he worked part-time at the Longboat Key Club and Resort. A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bradenton and the Sara Bay Country Club, he also served as a director of the Whitfield Ballentine Manor Association.

Mr. Atkins is survived by Anne, his wife of 46 years; his sister, Suzanne Ott; daughters, Cindy Atkins, Pamela Barth, Jennifer Stone and Laurie Moulliet; two grandchildren; and his devoted dog rescued from the pound, Deacon.

A memorial service was held Saturday, April 20, at the First Presbyterian Church of Bradenton. Memorial donations may be made to the church, 1402 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton, Fla., 34205, or the Manatee Humane Society, 2515 Tamiami Trail, Bradenton, Fla., 34205.
