Charles Rupert Jamison, 91, of Longboat Key, died Dec. 29.

Born in Spartanburg, S.C., Mr. Jamison studied at Wofford College. After graduation, he served as a flight instructor in the United States Navy during World War II. Flying became his lifelong passion. While an executive at Mead Johnson Company in Evansville, Ind., he also developed a hanger facility at the Evansville Memorial Airport, had an airplane fuel franchise, and formed the Jamison Corporation for real-estate investments.

Mr. Jamison retired to Longboat Key, where he indulged in his favorite pastimes: sailing, tennis and entertaining. He worshipped at All Angels by the Sea Episcopal Church, and was a member of Bird Key Yacht Club and The Field Club.

Mr. Jamison was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Alexa, and his stepdaughter, Susan Pegram Harrison.

He is survived by his children, Meredith Jamison and Charles Jamison; stepdaughters, Alexa Harrison Moss and Julie Harrison; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial gifts may be made in Mr. Jamison’s honor to Habitat for Humanity.
