Benjamin Gilfix, 71, of Longboat Key, died June 11.

Born July 24, 1937, in Newton, Mass., he later moved to Needham, Mass.

Mr. Gilfix graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and became president of G&S Paper Co., before retiring in 1994. He enjoyed painting, crossword puzzles, music and chess, but his greatest source of joy was his family and friends.

Mr. Gilfix is survived by his wife of 48 years, Toby Lee; son, Ronald Gilfix, of Southboro, Mass.; daughter, Lisa Kleeman, of Owings Mills, Md.; six grandchildren; and nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends.

A memorial service was held June 14, at B’nai Shalom, in Westboro, Mass. The family observed Shiva that evening. A memorial will be held on Longboat Key during the Thanksgiving holidays. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Benjamin Gilfix to a diabetes research organization of your choice or the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
