Obituary: Ann Bachmann

Mrs. Bachmann had a lifelong love of philanthropy. Beginning in 1990, she, her husband and brother- and sister-in-law sponsored an “I Have a Dream” class of 57 students from Burr School in Chicago. They mentored the students from their late elementary-school years until they finished college. She was an ardent supporter of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, serving as a tour guide and chairing fundraiser luncheons. In 2011, she and her husband were honored for their dedication to Holocaust remembrance and education. The couple also supported the Illinois Holocaust Memorial Museum in Skokie, Ill., and the Board of Israel Tennis Centers, an overseas program that fosters childhood education, health and friendship through tennis.

A lover of art, Mrs. Bachmann had a world-renowned studio glass collection. She was a member of the Art Alliance of Contemporary Glass and an honored collector at a 2003 event at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia. Pieces of her collection have been on display at Northwestern University, the Chazen Museum in Madison, Wis., and in North Shore magazine and Art & Antiques magazine.

She enjoyed playing tennis and golf, lunching with friends and listening to music.

Mrs. Bachmann is survived by her husband, Bruce; brother, Jim Cohen; children, Steve, Andy, Cathy Ethridge and Betsy Kushen; and four grandchildren.

A funeral was held March 11, in Skokie, Ill. Memorial gifts may be made to the charity of your choice.
