+ New regulations proposed for scrap metal
Sarasota County and the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office are working on proposed changes to a county ordinance regulating the purchase of secondhand goods, precious metals and scrap metal.

The proposed changes are available online at http://bit.ly/pcXkiS. The public also may submit comments, questions and suggestions online at [email protected] until 9 a.m. Sept. 30.

Sheriff’s Office and county officials have said they are seeing a growing problem with the theft and sale of stolen ferrous, non-ferrous and precious metals (gold, silver and copper).

+ County to dedicate historical marker
The Sarasota County Historical Commission will recognize Riverview High School with the dedication of a new historical marker at the school at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4. Riverview is located at 1 Ram Way, on the southwest corner of Proctor Road and Lords Avenue, in Sarasota.

The marker will recognize the historical significance of the original Riverview High School, which opened in 1958; architect Paul Rudolph, known internationally as a member of the Sarasota School of Architecture, designed it.

The dedication is open to the public; light refreshments will be served. For more information, call 861-5000.
