+ Judge enters official Colony orders
Town attorney David Persson alerted the Longboat Key Town Commission in an email Thursday that a bankruptcy judge officially entered orders Wednesday that awards more than $20 million in damages to longtime Colony owner Dr. Murray “Murf” Klauber, his partnership with the association and the resort’s unit owners. 

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge K. Rodney May granted a $20,646,312 damages award without restoring the partnership, which kept control of the units with the owners.

The damages money would be used to pay a list of Colony creditors before Klauber and other limited partners could receive any money.

Colony Association President Jay Yablon has stated the association expected May’s decision, and it plans to appeal the rulings in an Atlanta-based U.S. Court of Appeals courtroom. 

+ Town refreshes website this week
The town will unveil the new longboatkey.org Thursday, Nov. 1. Website features include a listing of town staff, upcoming meeting agendas and a section with answers to frequently asked questions on Longboat Key, such as:

• What do I do if I notice that my neighbor’s grass is not being cut or the property is not being properly maintained?

• Why does a fire truck respond with an ambulance?

• When should I call 911?

• Who do I contact about nuisance wildlife such as raccoons or peacocks?

+ Library switches to winter hours
The Longboat Library, 555 Bay Isles Road, will switch to winter hours beginning Thursday, Nov. 1. The library will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays. For information, call 383-2011.

+ Make your vote count
It’s Decision Day 2012 Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Longboat Key voters will decide not only on presidential, state, local elections, 11 amendments to the state constitution and judicial appointments but also on two density referenda questions involving properties at 521 Broadway and 5440 Gulf of Mexico Drive.

Voters who live on the Manatee County side of Longboat Key will vote at Longboat Island Chapel, 6200 Gulf of Mexico Drive, while the island’s Sarasota County residents will vote at Longboat Key Town Hall, 501 Bay Isles Road.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
