+ PIC to hold insurance forum next week
The Longboat Key Public Interest Committee will hold an insurance forum at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 19 at Longboat Island Chapel, 6200 Gulf of Mexico Drive.

Mike Angers, of Brown and Brown Insurance, who specializes in condo association insurance matters, and Mike Milliard, of MIC Insurance Advisors, who handles single-family and condo insurance policies, will be making presentations. The forum is not sponsored by an insurance company or agency and is an informational session only. Insurance topics that will be discussed include wind and flood insurance, Citizens Insurance and universal motorist insurance coverage.

The event is free and open to the public.

+ Bay Isles expresses Colony frustration
Bay Isles President Bill Levine sent a letter to the Longboat Key Town Commission Feb. 28, expressing frustration and concerns about the shuttered Colony Beach & Tennis Resort Association.

Bay Isles residents believe the shuttered resort is a blight that’s affecting their property values, he said.
“Because the legal battle at the Colony has exceeded six years, with no end in sight, the Bay Isles Board would like to encourage Longboat Key commissioners to resolve the issues with the Colony’s interested parties,” Levine said. “We have received a significant number of complaints from our owners in regard to this property. The complaints include loss of value of homes, pest-control issues due to rodents and other pests migrating from the Colony and neglect of property affecting the views from their homes.”

Both Aquarius and Country Club Shores residents have also complained recently about how the resort property is affecting their communities and decreasing their property values.
