+ Attorney selection time approaches
A new town attorney will be plucked soon from a list of five.

The Longboat Key Town Commission will review informally five candidates at its Monday, April 1 regular commission meeting. Town Manager Dave Bullock is seeking guidance from commissioners on how they would like to review the candidates before making a final decision.

Candidates include Maggie D. Mooney-Portale of Sarasota-based Hankin, Persson, McClenathen, Cohen & Darnell; Charles H. Webb of Holmes Beach-based Webb, Wells & Williams; Robert K. Robinson of Sarasota-based Nelson Hesse; and Susan Churuti of Tampa-based Bryant Miller Olive.

+ Town officials: Colony needs more cleanup
Assistant Town Manager Anne Ross sent a letter to affected Colony Beach & Tennis Resort parties Wednesday, March 20, informing them the site needs more cleanup before hurricane season starts in June.
The letter, which Town Manager Dave Bullock signed, instructs the Colony Beach & Tennis Resort Association to clean up certain parts of the property no later than April 12, or the town will begin using the Association’s $50,000 cash bond to pay to clean it up.

Building Official Wayne Thorne submitted a two-page list of resort deficiencies and a series of photographs. Problems include loose gutters, broken fences, exposed wires and loose doors.

+ Linley Street dock replacement to begin
Replacement of the Linley Street dock in the Longbeach Village will begin around May 15, according to Michael Drake, president of the Longbeach Village Association.

Construction will last approximately 60 days. The pier will not be usable during that time.
