Because of recent Florida Building Code changes, on Jan. 1, the Manatee County Building Department began a permitting and inspections process for all garage door replacements in the unincorporated areas of the county.

“This is being done for the health, safety and welfare of our customers,” Building Director John Barnott said. “We don’t want people installing garage doors that are going to fail.”

The law now requires new and replacement garage doors to have labeling that identifies the manufacturer, the door model, the design pressure rating and an installation instruction drawing.

For more information or to schedule an inspection, visit www.mymanatee.org or call the building department at 749-3047.
