A new East County-based animal rescue group has rescued a mother dog and her pups after organizing a flight to transport them here from a kill shelter in Chipley.

The group, Safe Haven Animal Rescue of Florida, contacted Pilots N Paws to see if a pilot could transport the family of dogs, which was slated to be killed Jan. 29, by plane rather than transporting them by car, which would have been a seven- to nine-hour trip that requiring about four vehicle transfers, SHARF’s vice president Mary Anne McDevitt said.

Pilot Dr. Don Collier and his wife Sandy agreed to fly the pups and their mother to the Volo Airport in Sarasota free of charge through the Pilots N Paws organization.
