Do you have the necessary skills needed to extinguish the flames of local fires and other emergencies?

The Myakka City Fire Control District might be looking for you.

Manatee County is accepting applications through June 26 for the East County district, which needs four fire commissioners for its board. Three of the seats are for four-year terms, and the other seat is for a two-year term.

The volunteer Fire Board oversees the fire district with authority to finance local needs as they relate to fire safety, and meets monthly at an agreed upon location.

The district operates two staffed fire stations: one located on Wauchula Road in Myakka City, and one on State Road 70, near Panther Ridge.

The district is located east of County Road 675 and extends east to the Desoto and Hardee counties' line. The district responds to more than 500 emergency calls annually, covering an area of 230 square miles, a press release stated.

Myakka residents may inquire as to seat and residency requirements by contacting Myakka City Fire Chief Dan Cacchiotti at 322-6525, or by emailing [email protected].

Applications are available at mymanatee.org/advisory_boards or on myakkacityfire.org
