Mustangs own the pool at county meet

The Lakewood Ranch High swim team set 10 new records on its way to winning the Manatee County Championship Swim Meet Oct. 14 at G.T. Bray. 

The boys and girls teams finished with a combined 983.5 points followed by Saint Stephen's (516) and Manatee (509). 

The Lady Mustangs scored 521 points followed by Manatee (273) and Saint Stephen's (268).  

Leading the way for the Lady Mustangs were Ashley Reid and Danielle Valley who each set four new meet records. Reid was victorious in the 200 individual medley, the 100-yard backstroke, the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay while Valley won the 200 and 500 freestyles along with the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay. Rebekah Baker set a new meet record in the 100 butterfly and was also a part of the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay, which also included Shannon McCarthy and Raegan Sauer, respectively. 

Braden River, led by Madison Daunt, Mac Flanagan and Holly Neuhaus finished in fourth place with 231 points. 

Lakewood's boys team finished with 462.5 points followed by Southeast (260) and Saint Stephen's (248). Braden River finished sixth with 27 points. 

The Mustangs were led by senior John Silvers who won all four of his events and set three new county meet records in the 200 and 500 freestyles and the 200 freestyle relay, which also included James Cascone, Matt Polk and Lucas Thompson.
