MTI to have reshuffled leadership

EAST COUNTY — The Manatee County School District is reshuffling the leadership of its adult, career and technical education center.

In a cost-saving move, the school district will not renew the contract of Dr. Mary Cantrell, the director of Manatee Technical Institute. 

Cantrell’s departure will allow the school district to combine her position with Doug Wagner’s current job, as director of adult, career and technical education. 

The new position does not yet have a title.

“This is the model that’s already used at Sarasota Technical Institute,” said Steve Valley, the Manatee County School District’s director of communications.

Valley said Wagner will be considered for the new position but he has not been awarded it, because it will be open to the public.
