Mill Creek woman killed in crash

An East County family is mourning the loss of a mother and friend.

Paige K. Sedgley, 40, was killed in a four-car crash on Interstate 75 near Prime Outlets — Ellenton on Dec. 12, according to Florida Highway Patrol reports.

In total, the crash involved 10 people. Sedgley was pronounced dead on scene at 4:49 p.m. Four others seriously injured and a 2-year-old child suffered minor injuries. They were transported to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg and Manatee Memorial Hospital.

A Florida Highway Patrol reports at about 4:35 p.m., Sedgley’s 2003 Toyota sport utility vehicle veered from the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 into the grassy median, began turning clockwise, and traveled back onto northbound lanes. Sedgley then overcorrected, sending the vehicle into the median and then into oncoming southbound lanes of traffic, the report states.

Sedgley’s vehicle collided two vehicles and then continued into the path of a third vehicle. The impact brought Sedgley’s vehicle to a halt in the middle lane, while the other vehicle flipped on the west shoulder and landed on its right said, the report states.

Authorities said investigation of the crash is ongoing.

Sedgely’s husband, David, is a firefighter with Southern Manatee Fire Rescue.
