McLendon enters District 5 commission race

Randy McLendon, an Englewood Realtor, has qualified for candidacy in the race for the District 5 seat of the Sarasota County Commission, which will be vacated by Commissioner Jon Thaxton this fall.

McLendon, a Republican, in 2009 founded Taking Our Country Back, an Englewood political organizations espousing Tea Party values. He joins Charles Hines and Vanessa Carusone, both Republicans, and write-in William Slider in the race for the District 5 seat.

McLendon, 58, was born in Montgomery, Ala., moved in 1998 to Englewood, and joined Michael Saunders & Co. in 2000, according to the candidate’s website.

Louis Rosenfield, a Republican, did not qualify for the race by the June 8 filing deadline.
