Longboat Key resident Arlene McKitrick struck her 193rd golf championship victory April 10, on the Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club’s King Dunes course.

She is now working toward her goal of winning 200 championships.

McKitrick reports that the victory came after a health scare in January. She was working out with a trainer twice a week and eating a healthy diet as she prepared for her tournament schedule. Suddenly, she found herself dropping weight and growing weaker. She found it difficult to swing a golf club and lost two tournaments.

In March, doctors determined that McKitrick was experiencing a reaction to a medication. Since doctors took her off the drug, she reports that she is feeling great.

“Life is a precious commodity,” McKitrick wrote. “Invest in it wisely. Do the things you love today because tomorrow is always a mystery.”
