Sarasota Mayor Kelly Kirschner announced this morning he will not seek re-election in the spring.
“At this point in my life, the personal and financial health of my family must be my paramount responsibility,” he said in a statement.
Kirschner’s first term will expire in April.
“Serving on the City Commission these past four years provided me with a tremendous education, large challenges and many new friends,” Kirschner said. “I feel honored to have represented the interests of my District 3 constituents.”
The only candidate to submit his election paperwork to run for Kirschner’s district is Alta Vista resident Pete Theisen, who ran for an at-large seat in 2009.
