Manatee schools release 10-day count

The Manatee County School District today released its much-anticipated 10-day student count, with preliminary numbers showing growth of only 132 in traditional public schools.

Special and charter schools accounted for the bulk of student growth figures, accounting for 480 of the district’s additional 635 students.

Ten-day count numbers show a loss of nearly 200 students in district middle schools, although Braden River and Haile middles both gained between five and 21 students, while Nolan lost three.

At the high school level, both Lakewood Ranch and Braden River High schools both saw increases in students, together totaling about 100 students.

And, at the elementary school level, the district saw an overall increase of only 64 children, with students counts dropping at schools such as Prine and Daughtrey elementary schools, but rising in East County schools, such as Tara, Witt and McNeal. Gullett Elementary saw the most dramatic increase in student counts of any traditional public school districtwide with 114 additional students.
