Native Floridian and Mil Creek resident Brenda Rogers has been named the 2009 Outstanding Agriculturist of the Year.

Rogers, the director of the Manatee County Extension/Agricultural and Resource Conservation Department, received the honor during a Farm City Week luncheon of the Kiwanis Club Nov. 17.

“I was really honored,” Rogers said. “I was overwhelmed. It makes me part of a unique fraternity that includes some of my dearest friends. It certainly makes me feel good about my life’s work. The people I admire have found positive aspects in the things we’ve been trying to do.”

Rogers is a lifelong member of the 4H and has been a member of the Kiwanis Club for 10 years. She currently serves on the board of directors for the Manatee County Agricultural Museum.
