The Manatee County School District is one step closer to pinpointing the address of its newest high school.

The district put in an offer March 14 on 48 acres of property on Erie Road in Parrish — land adjacent to a 48-acre parcel it already owns there and hasn't developed. District spokesman Mike Barber released the information earlier this week, after Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene made the announcement April 1.

After presenting an offer on the land earlier this month, a counteroffer will be presented to the district this week, Barber said.

The site is currently used for commercial greenhouse purposes.

Officials anticipate the new high school will span 80 to 100 acres and will help ease congestion at Lakewood Ranch, Braden River and Palmetto high schools, which are all at or over capacity.
