The Sarasota Observer caught up with several Riverview High School students at orientation Thursday, Aug. 19, to see how they felt about the upcoming school year.

Mariah Nelson, senior
How do you feel about being a senior?
I’m just really excited and kind of want to go to college already!

What are you most looking forward to this year?
Senior events and getting my IB diploma.

What do you consider your favorite high school moment?
When the Kiltie band got its 50th superior.

Are you in the band?
I am the leader of the clarinet section. I want to play in college. I plan to attend UF.


Rachel DeJoy, junior
What are you most looking forward to this year?
Lunch with my friends.

What class will be the most difficult?
Probably AP environmental science.

What class could you do without?
Humanities.

What’s your favorite high school memory?
Homecoming.


Lauren Bow, freshman
How are you feeling right now?
Nervous. This is a new environment. It’s really big, and I’m scared.

From what school did you come to RHS?
Sarasota Middle School.

What are you most excited about?
I’m excited to finally get freedom!

How do you feel about your classes?
They’re going to be really hard — I’m taking a lot of AP and honors.

What class could you do without?
Physical science honors.


Noah Taylor, sophomore
What class are you most excited about?
Team sports class and lunch.

What’s the hardest class on your schedule?
Pre-calculus.

What class do you wish you didn’t have to take?
Chemistry. My teacher is really hard.

What’s your favorite high school memory so far?
Mr. Mocherman’s biology class — he’s really nice and a great, experienced teacher.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
A spy.


Thais de Faria, senior
What do you consider your favorite high school moment?
French — I love learning new languages.

What are you most looking forward to this year?
All the senior events and wearing senior shirts to advertise that you’re a senior.

Do you already have post-high school plans?
My friends and I are all going to room together at UF, we hope.

What are you most looking forward to this year?
OMG, everything! Senior night, prom, graduation and football games!

What do you consider your favorite high school moment?
Every single day in Ms. Jones’ chemistry class. She is awesome and blows everything up!
