President Barack Obama signed into existence new health care legislation Tuesday. The East County Observer caught up with residents in the area to get their thoughts.

What are your thoughts on the passage of the health care reform bill?

Heidi Anderson
“I’m against it. I think it’s going to cost people who have insurance and do well.”

Judith Howell
“I mostly do not agree with it. I am so distressed that our politicians — who are supposed to be guiding us — are thinking about themselves and not us."

Wendy Miller
“I honestly don’t know much about it. I just know the whole system needs change. I have a lot of preexisting conditions, so therefore I can’t get insurance. I need to learn more about (the bill). Everybody’s complaining about it.”

David Tatch
“I think it’s great. I used to be in the health care industry. It’s a shame our country doesn’t compete with other countries, like Canada, in terms of health care."

Carol Tumey
“I like about 25% of it. I like the part where if you have a pre-existing condition, you can get health care. I wasn’t happy the bill was passed. I wanted them to can the bill, start all over and do line item with absolutely no perks placed into it.”
