A Lakewood Ranch was held at gunpoint and bound with duct-tape during a home invasion last night.

A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report states that around 11:50 p.m., Jan. 14, 50-year-old Wayne Shapiro was lying in bed watching television in his condo in 8900 block of Manor Loop in The Village at Town Park when two suspects kicked in his front door.

One of the suspects was armed with semi-automatic handgun and went directly into the victim’s bedroom, where he ordered Shapiro to get on the ground.

Once Shapiro was on the ground, the suspects bound his hands with duct tape and zip-tied his legs, the report states. They also covered his head will pillows and a sheet from the bedroom.

The suspects then rummaged through the victim’s property and stole a satchel-style briefcase containing gasoline certificates and a large amount of cash before fleeing.

The victim waited until the suspects were gone and called 911. Deputies checked the area upon their arrival, but did not locate the perpetrators.

No one was injured in the incident, the report states.
