The Mall at University Town Center boasts environmentally-friendly features

Although East County's newest shopping force plans to make its mark in the community by drawing in crowds to shop at The Mall at University Town Center, mall officials hope to make another footprint in the community.

The 880,000-square-foot shopping center will offer a range of environmentally-friendly features when it opens Oct. 16, from energy-efficient light bulbs to 16 electric car charging stations.

The mall at UTC also houses recycling stations inside the mall and service areas, along with the structure's "green" physical attributes, such as a white roof to reduce heat gain and high-efficiency skylighting.

Mall representatives boast the features will lessen the 73-acre site's environmental impact on East County.
