Longboat PD debuts new number

Residents accustomed to dialing 316-1977 to reach the Longboat Key Police Department should begin changing their speed-dial settings.

Chief Pete Cumming encourages residents with non-emergency calls to instead dial 316-1201. Both numbers connect to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center, after which an operator will direct the call to the appropriate Longboat Key Police Department employee.

There is no timeframe for when 316-1201 will become the sole non-emergency number.

“It’s not time-critical,” Cumming said. “But, the county wants to have that as the only number.”
